AMIR LAYS MOSQUE FOUNDATION TO KICK-START NEW ADMINISTRATION

Wednesday 10th July 2019 no doubt, was a remarkable day in the history of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria as the Amir (National Head) Alhaji (Barr.) AbdulAzeez Folorunso Alatoye laid a mosque foundation at Oke-Ore, Owode Branch during what could be termed his first official duty since his assumption of office on 1st July, 2019. The Amir, while giving his address, thanked the donor of the land and commended the Majlis Ansarullah Ahmadiyya Nigeria (Elders’ Wing) whose efforts in Tabligh (Preaching) expedition resulted to the acquisition of the land, adding that only the God Almighty could reward those who contributed to the project. He urged all members to improve on their financial, spiritual and physical sacrifices towards mosque projects such that the Jama’at will have adequate mosque facilities for all new converts. In his words: “One of the fundamental issues in the Jama’at is the provision of mosques that can serve our new converts.  It is grossly inadequate.  Hence, there is a need for us to improve on our sacrifices, both physically and financially.  We all have a role to play in constructing mosques for the Jama’at.” “In the past, within the Jama’at, we hardly pay for labour.  We only pay for experts while the Jama’at members provide all materials needed for a particular project.  Dignity of labour (Wakar-e-Amal) must be resuscitated.  Let us all contribute and donate generously to the progress of the Jama’at,” Amir advised. Obedience to the Institution of Khilafat: Barrister Alatoye emphasized on the need for all members of the Jama’at to submit themselves fully to the institution of Khalifat and obey all the instructions of His Holiness.  He believed there will be serious retrogression if we do otherwise. “Where there is obedience, progress is certain. Before we can make any meaningful progress, we need to follow the instructions of Allah.  Members in a mosque must obey Allah, His commandments and constituted authority starting from the instructions of Huzur Anwar(atba).  We must obey the Khilafat with all humility and in its entirety. Obedience is very key to our development. The Amir further appealed to members not to relent in Tabligh expeditions. More Converts Joined the Jama’ats: Another highlight of the programme was the winning of more converts into the fold of Ahmadiyya Community.  It was reported that more people had earlier joined the Jama’at through the Tabligh exercise organised by the Majlis Ansarullah Nigeria while some others in the area filled the Baiat (initiation) forms at the event. Amir congratulated the new converts and urged them to always fear Allah alone and be steadfast while worshipping God the Almighty. Former Amir Commended: The Sadr (leader) of Majlis Ansarullah, Engr. Abdul-Waheed Adeoye commended the critical role the former Amir, Dr. Mashhud Fashola, played towards the success of the project. He stated that the auxiliary body had a similar project to implement at Ibogun side in Epe Area where there are 28 converts already.  He stressed that the aim of the mosque building was to ensure that the Jama’at functions effectively after gaining Baiats. Brief Background of the Land: Coordinator of Majlis Ansarullah activities in Owode Region, Mr. Surajudeen Mustapha who was the architect of the land acquisition recalled how he used his good office as a Certified Surveyor to convince one of his clients, Chief (Mrs.) Hassanat Amusan to donate a portion of her land, measuring 110 by 65ft few years back for the building of a mosque.  He added that the agreement on the land had already been prepared and ready for signing by both parties. Owode branch President, Alhaj Ajibade commended the efforts of the surveyor and promised that the branch will continue to improve on its preaching activities in a bid to win more souls. Courtesy Call on the Chief Imam: The Amir and his team later paid courtesy visit to the Chief Imam of Oke-Ore, Alhaji Nasirudeen Raji Adegbite, who was a close friend of the Jama’at in the area.  He thanked the Chief Imam for accommodating Ahmadiyya Community. He reiterated that Ahmadiyya Community is a peace-loving organization saddled with the reformation of the entire world and selfless service to humanity. Dignitaries present at the event include Maulvi Nadeem Waseem; Naib Sadr (Admin.) MAAN, Alhaji Dauda Raji; Naib Sadr Saf Dom, Mr. Abdul-Waheed Towolawi; Coordinator of Missionaries’ activities for Owode & Ota, Mr. Taoheed Ola. AMIR ATTENDS OSUN POST RAMADHAN GRAND LECTURE

Dr. Mashhud Adenrele Fashola, the Amir (National Head) of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria was a special guest of honour at the annual post-Ramadhan grand lecture organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Organization, Osun State held at Ansarudeen Central Mosque Ejigbo, Osun State. His attendance at the programme was part of the itinerary of his one-day working visit to the State and was accompanied by the Naib Amir (Deputy National President) South West region Alhaji AbdulAzeez Alatoye, the General Secretary AMJN Alh Abbas Iromini and National Secretary for Agriculture Prof. Abdur Rahman Abdullah. Delivering his lecture on the topic of the day titled: ” Contemporary Challenges and Its Impact on Human Development, ” the guest lecturer and the National Secretary for Tabligh (Preaching) AMJN Dr. Saheed Olurotimi Timehin highlighted some of the challenges hindering the growth and development of human race in the country. These include political challenges, economic challenges, moral and spiritual challenges as well as security challenges. He traced the genesis of Nigeria’s problems to the forceful amalgamation of the two halves of the country- Northern and Southern protectorates in 1914 by the British. A decision he said, was taken by the Westerners to satisfy their selfish motives of improving their economic activities to the detriment of the indigenous people. Dr. Timehin said the country is at the brink of total collapse due to the nonchalant attitudes and selfish interest of the government, and if necessary machinery is not put in place, aggrieved Nigerians may soon wage war against the government. He added that Nigerians are suffering and that the constitution only favors the looters and not the masses. Way out of Bad Governance According to him, one of the surest means of solving the contemporary problems affecting human development is for the government to provide good governance at all levels. That government must re-orientate and empower the youths, provide the basic amenities needed by all to survive. He also said there was an urgent need to review the constitution to correct some flaws it contained. The senior lecturer of Arabic Studies at Lagos State University also urged all Muslims to understand and fear God Almighty and pray fervently for His intervention. Dr. Timehin further admonished youths not to be indolent and lazy. That youth must strive to be self-reliant and upgrade their status in their various professions. Dr. Fashola, in his remarks, opined that the political process in Nigeria has been faulty ab initio hence the prevalence of bad governance in all government parastatals but believed the problem could be a nip in the bud with collective and sincere prayers. He also advised the government to expedite actions on improving the living standard of the populace.

Alhaji Alatoye who resumes office on Monday 1st July 2019 made the call at the handing over ceremony held at the National Headquarters of the organization in Ojokoro, Lagos. 2019 MAAN NATIONAL IJTEMA: AMIR CHALLENGES PARENTS ON MARITAL CRISES

Perturbed by the high rate of early marital break-ups among young couples within the Jama’at, the Amir (National Head) of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, Alhaji (Barr.) Alatoye Folorunso Azeeez has hinted that the parents, especially the fathers cannot absolve themselves from blame on the problem. The Amir made the assertion at the 44th Annual National Ijtema (Convention) of the Majlis Ansarullah Silsila ‘Aliya Ahmadiyya Nigeria (Elders’ Forum) held at Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State. He opined that the genesis of the incessant marital conflicts and divorce could not be unconnected to the unruly and unimaginable behaviours of some fathers who maltreat and disrespect their wives in the presence of the young ones. According to him, all Ahmadi parents are expected to live above board in matters relating to harmonious marital life, adding that it is incumbent on all members to be tolerant and train their wards in the Islamic way of life. His words: “Marital crises among young couples in the Jama’at is a concern to the management.  It is rampant these days, hence the need to collectively proffer solution.  The character of some Ansarullah members towards their wives is extremely terrible and appalling.  To make matters worse, these behaviours are being displayed in the presence of the young ones who are yet to marry.’’ ‘’Let us get this right.  The way we treat our wives is the same way our sons will treat their wives, and the response our wives give us is the same response our daughters will give their husbands.  We as fathers should be good and kind to our wives.  Let us all reform ourselves and set good examples for our children.  Above all, let us be tolerant with our wives.  Majlis Ansarullah is like the brain box of the Jama’at.  We are the fathers of all.  Let us transform ourselves first so as to transform the nation.  Excellent and moral behaviours should be our qualities.  Let us always obey the instructions of Khalifah to get things done progressively.  And let us uphold respect for the rules and regulations of the Jama’at.’’ Inner Reformation: Key to Real Ethical Revolution The Amir speaking on the theme lecture titled: “Inner Reformation: Key to Real Ethical Revolution” highlighted that some of the impediments to reformation can be linked to the strength of resolve and will-power to implement reformation in practice.  These impediments, according to him, are Environmental influence, family influence, non-challant attitudes, correlation between habit and practice (smoking, drinking, etc.), keeping immediate and short-term matters in view, classification of sins as major and minor, human relations and customs as well as whole family reformation. To reform our daily practices, Amir said members must instill in themselves three-fold aspects of character which are: the strength of resolve, correct and proper knowledge, and strength to implement.  He added that the strength to reform others can only occur after individual self-reformation. ‘’Our triumph is not in subjugating anyone nor indeed is it to attain worldly objectives.  It is to make the world submit to God and His Messenger.  The state of reformation of practices is the same.  Some people have to instill strength of resolve, some are in need of strength to implement but for some, the burden is too much and for them, the society has to play its role, Jama’at has to play its role, the auxiliaries have to play their role,” Barr. Alatoye submitted. Self-Reformation is highly critical The Sadr (Head) of Majlis Ansarullah Nigeria, Engr. Abdul Waheed Akanji Adeoye implored elders of Ahmadiyya Community to reform themselves properly before delving into revolutionizing the world. He said: “As believers in and followers of the Reformer raised by Allah for this age, we have the herculean task of revolutionizing the entire world, so that, not only the whole of mankind might recognize the only Creator of the entire universe but also imbibe and live by the nature and spirit of this Creator.  But this we cannot effectively and successfully accomplish the task except we ourselves are properly and adequately reformed; both individually and collectively.” Other Faith-Inspiring Lectures The three-day programme also featured thought-provoking and faith-inspiring lectures delivered by scholars within the Jama’at and these include: “A True Caller to God: Holy Prophet(SAW) as an Excellent Model,” delivered by Muallim Muhammad Qasim Oyekola; “Our Home, Our Future” by Alhaji Abdul Ganiy Oladipupo; “Excelling in Doing Good,” by Barrister Muhammad Bashir; “All of Us Need a Model” by Maulvi Naseem Butt;” and “The Need for the Imam,” by Muallim Abdul Hadi Babarinde.  Darsul Hadith, Darsul Quran, Malfoozat, Shoora (Deliberation) and Health Talk on Diarrhoea Disease and Ischemic Heart Disease also took place. Educational Events Educational events such as Quran Recitation Competition, Qaseedah Competition, Speech Contest, Quiz Competition and sporting events like 100m Race, Power pull, Table Tennis and concentration Race, were also held. Free Medical Camp: Another highlight of the Annual Ijtema is the Free Medical camp where 843 members of the public benefitted from Blood Pressure Checks, Fasting and Random Blood Sugar Checks, Visual Acuity Test, Free Reading Glasses, Health and Nutritional Counselling.  The medical camp was held at the Primary Health Centre Iju, Ogun State. LATEST: Harmony through educational excellence: Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V speaks at UNESCO

At approximately 6:15 local time a special session by UNESCO commenced in Miollis, Paris with the arrival of Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa. UNESCO, with 193 member-countries, is a body of the United Nations that “seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences and Culture.” UNESCO’s constitution, signed on 16 November 1945, envisions to establish peace “upon dialogue and mutual understanding”, and “upon the intellectual and moral solidarity of humanity.” UNESCO globally carries out a large number of charitable, humanitarian and intellectual projects. With Huzoor’saa arrival, the session started with a series of speeches from UNESCO officials and other dignitaries, followed by an introduction to Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya by Asif Arif Sahib. The speakers included; the communications supervisor of Mali’s delegation at UNESCO, Mr Jean Christophe Auge the Religious Adviser of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Mr Clement Rouchouse from the Central Religion Advisory Board at the Home Office, Mr Gregoire Dublineau, Mayor of Eaubonne, Mr Willy Breton, President of the NATO Memorial and Mr Guillaume Diallo, representative of the Malian Christians living abroad. The speakers expressed their admiration of the peaceful aspirations and works of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat. Thereafter, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa addressed the congregation. Huzooraa greeted the guests and thanked UNESCO for the event. Huzooraa also thanked all the guests who came to listen to “a person who is neither a politician, nor a political leader, nor a scientist, but the head of a religious community…” Huzooraa said that the founding objectives of UNESCO being peace, respect, human rights, education, freedom of expression and alleviating poverty are all “excellent and praiseworthy”. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa expressed that the guests may be surprised to hear that these are also the objectives of Islam. “Such service is based on the very first chapter of the Holy Quran which states that Allah the All Mighty is the Lord of all the worlds”. Huzooraa explained that this verse is a reminder for Muslims that Allah is the Lord of all humankind, “irrespective of cast, creed and colour.” Huzooraa said that Islam teaches that “the values of mutual respect and tolerance must be firmly embedded within society”. Allah is the Provider and Sustainer to all people, even though they may reject him. “His grace and mercy remain even with those who continually speak ill of Him”, Huzooraa explained. The philosophy of punishment or sanction established by God, in Islam, is geared more towards the hereafter. In this life, Allah continues to manifest his grace and mercy and has instructed mankind also to show compassion and sympathy to one another. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa stated that “it is a religious obligation on Muslims to fulfil the requirements of other people, irrespective of religion, culture or ethnicity and to always be kind” to “the emotions and needs of others”. Huzooraa explained how the Holy Prophetsa was the best of all creation but yet, had to endure great hardships. After migration to Medina, the Holy Prophetsa was elected as Head of the State and “under his leadership, the covenant proved to be a magnificent charter of human rights and governance, ensuring peace between the different communities”. The Prophetsa of Islam established an impartial judiciary and made it clear that there would be the same law for the rich and powerful and the poor and weak. All people would be treated equally, according to the law of the land. The Holy Prophetsa made it clear that the same law applied to his own family. Further, “the Prophet of Islam established an excellent education system through which the intellectual standards of that society were raised”. Educated people were instructed to teach the illiterate. “This was all done so that the weak and powerless could stand on their own two feet and advance”. Huzooraa mentioned that the Holy Prophetsa established a code of business and financial ethics. “In an age when slavery was rampant and slave owners treated their slaves mercilessly, the Prophet of Islam sought to bring about a revolution in society.” Slave owners were urged by the Holy Prophetsa to treat their slaves with compassion and respect and to ultimately free them. The roads of the city were expanded and improved. A city-cleaning programme was also implemented by the Holy Prophetsa and the population was taught about the importance of hygiene and health. Huzooraa said “For the very first time amongst the Arabs, an orderly and civilised society was established”, resulting in citizens becoming beneficial and active members of society. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa then spoke about how the Holy Prophetsa of Islam has been mischaracterised in today’s society. The reality is that the Prophetsa of Islam spent every moment of his life, “championing the rights of all people.” He established “a timeless charter of human rights.” The Prophetsa of Islam taught to respect the beliefs and feelings of others. Huzooraa said that it was regrettable that, in the modern world, respect has been sacrificed in the name of so-called freedom and entertainment. “The founders of religion are no longer spared mockery and contempt” The Holy Quran, however, says that Muslims should not even speak ill of the idols of others, as they, in return, may speak ill of Allah the Almighty, hence disrupting the peace of society. The Holy Prophetsa of Islam established various schemes to raise the standard of living of the weak and underprivileged. He said that “a poor person who was moral and considerate had far greater value than a rich person who cared not for the feelings of others”. Even in small matters, the Holy Prophetsa paid great attention to ensure protection of the feelings of underprivileged citizens of the society. For instance, the Holy Prophetsa would tell Muslims to invite the poor and weak to dinner. The Prophet of Islamsa continually told his followers to free slaves, or, if it was not possible, to at least feed and clothe them the same way that they fed and clothed themselves. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa then spoke of the rights of women in Islam. Huzooraa said that it is often alleged that Islam denies women’s rights, but “nothing could be further from the truth”. In a time when women were not respected, the Holy Prophetsa instructed his followers to

For more than one hundred years the Ahmadiyya Muslim community has been leading a peaceful revival of Islam. From the time it was founded in India in 1889 it has enjoyed an unrivalled record for peace and for its efforts to build cohesive societies.
