Eid al-Adha is a time of joy, sacrifice, and sharing—but for many vulnerable families across Nigeria, celebrating can be a challenge. This year, Humanity First Nigeria (HFN), with the generous support of Humanity First Canada, ensured that thousands of families were not left behind.
Recognizing the importance of inclusion during festive periods, HFN set aside special funds to support those in difficult circumstances. The organization’s Disaster Relief and Programs Team mobilized swiftly, identifying communities across the country where people were most in need.
From Mokwa to Maiduguri, Kano, Azare, and Abuja, HFN volunteers went door-to-door, distributing meat and essential food items. Their mission was simple: to restore a sense of dignity and celebration to families facing hardship.
The outreach didn’t stop in the north. In the southwest, residents in Abeokuta, Ikorodu, Meiran, and Akinyele-Ibadan also received support. Volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that no one was left out, embodying the spirit of Eid by giving selflessly and uplifting others.
In total, 9 cows and 8 sheep were sacrificed as part of this year’s initiative. The meat was distributed to over 3,235 individuals, helping them share in the blessings of the season despite their difficult circumstances.
Speaking on the impact of the effort, Abdul-Qadir Abdul-Rafi, head of the Disaster Relief and Programs Team, noted:
“Eid is about compassion and community. Our goal was to bring that spirit to people who may otherwise have gone unnoticed. We are grateful to Humanity First Canada for making this possible.”
Many of the beneficiaries appreciated the efforts of Humanity first and prayed for the donors saying that the meat distributed would go a long way in providing the needed support during Eid
