0

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, through its School of Theology otherwise known as Jamiatul Mubashireen Ilaro Ogun State has graduated nineteen (19) new set of missionaries.

The convocation ceremony came up at the institution’s playground and has in attendance Dr. Mashhud Adenrele Fashola, the Amir (Head) of the Muslim organization who was the chairman of the occasion.

11 Nigerians, seven (7) Beninese and one Cameroonian make up the graduating list. The young missionaries were between the ages of 20 and 25 years old. Two of them successfully completed the memorization of the Holy Qur’an within the four years of academic study.

In his goodwill message, the Supreme Head of Ahmadiyya Community worldwide Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (May Almighty God be his helper) urged the graduands to carry out missionary duties with all sense of humility, modesty and with the fear of Almighty God. Being a life devotee, the global head enjoined the missionaries to fulfill the mission of the Promised Messiah (as), the founder of the community, which is to spread the true message of the Holy Prophet.

‘’This pledge you have made of devoting your entire lives in the cause of Islam is not an insignificant matter. Having studied the Holy Qur’an over a long period, you are well aware of the importance of fulfilling pledges and so remember that you will certainly be called to account by Allah the Almighty, regarding the fulfillment of your pledge as a life devotee,’’ he stated.

In their efforts to succeed in Missionary activities, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V advised: ‘’it is of paramount importance that you develop a strong and everlasting bond with Allah by being diligent in your Salat (prayer). Unless you have a deep personal connection with Allah you will be unable to realize your pledge of giving precedence to your faith over all worldly matters, and then you will not be able to fulfill your duty of bringing others closer to Allah.’’

‘’You must constantly self – assess and increase your knowledge in the subjects you have studied and also those that you have not. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said that the pursuit of knowledge should continue throughout one’s life. Hence besides paying attention to your worship, you must reflect upon the deeper meaning of the Holy Qur’an and study its commentary. You should continue reading the books of the Promised Messiah every day as they offer the best interpretation of the Holy Qur’an. You must also endeavour to raise the spiritual and moral standards of the members of the Community.’’

‘’Remember that genuine faith and devotion requires a person to willingly invoke the demise of his personal ego. Certainly, every missionary of the community must seek to attain such standards and be prepared to sacrifice his own honour for the sake of his faith. You must be willing to bear all forms of hardship because only then will you be in a position to guide and reform others. Only then will you be ready to call people towards the truth.’’

‘’By the Grace of Allah, those young missionaries who have graduated from our Schools of Theology in various countries in the past few years have been a source of much comfort for me and are acting as my constant helpers. It is a cause of happiness for me to see them serving in this way and I hope and pray that this graduating class will also prove to be excellent and worthy servants of Ahmadiyya Community,’’ His Holiness submitted.

Dr. Fashola, while addressing the graduands, advised them to be perfect morally and spiritually before preaching to the people. He also urged the new missionaries to be dynamic and desist from laziness and idleness.

‘’You must be ready to serve Allah anywhere and don’t look for comfort. Endeavour to redeem your pledge as a life devotee. As a true servant of Allah, do not fear anyone. Nothing will happen to you except with the permission of Allah. You must reach the highest level of humility and have a strong connection with God,’’ Amir said.

The Missionary Incharge Maulvi Afzaal Ahmad Rauf emphasized that missionaries must be role models to all. That practical example in the matter of religion is very important in the life of a missionary otherwise it will be difficult to convince the disbelievers to the way of Allah.

Earlier, the Amir and his entourage visited the Exhibition center where the Holy Qur’an, Hadith, commentaries, and books written by the Promised Messiah (as) and the Khulafah (Successors to the Promised Messiah) were on display for guests in a bid to have in-depth knowledge of Ahmadiyya Community.

Abdul Waheed Adeoye, leader of the Elders Forum (Majlis Ansarullah); and Mrs. Taofeeqah Fagbolade, leader of the Women Wing (Lajna Imaillah).

“Loyalty is paramount” – Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V to Jamia Ahmadiyya graduates

0

On 29 April 2019, 17 students from Jamia Ahmadiyya UK, 18 from Jamia Germany and 6 from Jamia Canada received their Shahid degrees from Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa, officially graduating as missionaries of the Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam, in a convocation hosted by Jamia Ahmadiyya UK in Haslemere.

Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa not only awarded the Shahid degrees to the graduates and to position holders of the rest of the seven batches for the previous academic year, but also addressed the fresh batch of missionaries.

This was the seventh convocation held at Jamia Ahmadiyya UK and was attended by around 600 guests, including national office bearers of the UK Jamaat, Lajna Imaillah, families of Shahideen, as well as the amirs of those countries where the graduates belong to.

With this outgoing batch, a total of 131 missionaries have now graduated from Jamia Ahmadiyya UK since its start in 2005 – the first convocation was held in the Haslemere campus in 2012 and marked a new era for the UK Jamaat as it witnessed a new generation of missionaries entering the practical field under the direct guidance of Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya.

The proceedings began in the Jamia auditorium just after midday with the recitation of a portion from Surah al-Fath (Ch.48: V.29-30) and translation, followed by the recitation of an Urdu nazm written by the Promised Messiahas.

The academic report for Jamia Canada was then read out by the Principal Daud Hanif Sahib in which he highlighted the seven-year journey undertaken by the Jamia Canada graduates. This was followed by reports read out by the Principal of Jamia Germany, Shamshad Ahmad Qamar Sahib and Zaheer Ahmad Khan Sahib, President of Academic Committee, Jamia UK on the seven-year journey of their respective graduates.

After the reports, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa distributed awards and degrees. Each Shahid graduate received their degree, Tafsir-e-Saghir and a collection of Huzoor’saa addresses at convocations of the past, collated as a handbook titled Laiha-e-Amal.

The highlight of the convocation each year is the address delivered by Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa in which Huzooraa guides the graduates as to how they can best fulfill their roles as missionaries of the Jamaat.

Huzoor’saa advice to the outgoing class is always eagerly anticipated, not only by the graduates but by all in attendance and Ahmadis around the world.

In his address, after Tashahud, Ta‘awuz and the recitation of Surah al-Fatihah, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said that missionaries are those people who dedicate their lives for the spread of faith. The efforts they made during their studies would now assist them, but this should continue in their practical field.

Knowledge, Huzooraa said, is something that as it grows, spiritual knowledge should also expand, and with this, one’s relationship with Allah becomes more and more clear.

These young missionaries sacrificed their lives for the sake of the Messiah of Muhammadsa, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas. To further this mission is an immense responsibility which now rests on the shoulders of the graduates.

The missionaries have also sacrificed their lives to serve the Khilafat which was to be established in the latter days. Huzooraa explained that it is no ordinary matter to make such a pledge. The responsibilities are vast, and the missionaries presented themselves for this very purpose. This should always be in their minds. These oaths should be fulfilled with all their God-given capacities.

Some of the missionaries, Huzooraa said, in the past had asked Huzooraa to write a piece of advice. Huzooraa said that he had often written “Never be disloyal to your Lord” and always remain loyal to Allah as was Hazrat Abrahamas (as stated in the Holy Quran).

The Promised Messiahas has explained this level of devotion. At one place, the Promised Messiahas stated that Abrahamas was commended because, as stated in the Quran, he remained loyal and fulfilled his covenant. As Waqifeen, the graduates have also made a covenant, and to fulfill it requires all efforts to be made in this cause.

Such cowards who do not remain loyal to God, the Promised Messiahas said, are of no value. Huzooraa explained that if one does not stand by the promises they have made, then there is no use for such a one.

Hazrat Abrahamas was given his status due to his extreme loyalty to God, for example, he was put in the fire and bore immense pains and struggles. These difficulties, however, never allowed him to waver in his devotion. This is the level of devotion that is an example for all missionaries.

There are some Waqifeen who, not to speak of being practically left in the wilderness but even in fairly decent circumstances, begin to make the smallest of demands. As Waqifeen, the missionaries should remember that they should be able to endure all difficulties.

Even in normal circumstances, if there is a person who serves you well, you would naturally prefer such a one over a person who does not serve you at all. Huzooraa explained that the graduates should be those who remain loyal to their Lord and never waver in their resoluteness.

At one place, the Promised Messiahas explained something very important, that until a person is not completely faithful to their Lord, they have not fulfilled their faith. To achieve this, one must pray and develop a connection and a personal relationship with God. To excel in devotion to our Lord requires a lot of effort.

Huzooraa emphasised that this is the level of devotion expected of our missionaries.

Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra once pointed our attention towards this in one of his couplets:

عہد شکنی نہ کرو اہل وفا ہو جاؤ

(Remain loyal, never breaking your promises)

The oaths made by a Waqif-e-Zindagi and missionary surpass the promises made by Ahmadis.

بے وفاؤں میں نہیں ہوں میں وفاداروں میں ہوں

(I am not of the disloyal; I am among those who are loyal)

This is something that all missionaries should make their goal and target. This is what they should be working towards.

Huzooraa said that we must assess ourselves whether we are excelling in our relationship with our Lord. How much love is there in our hearts for Allah? Are we making all efforts to develop a connection with Him? If the answer is negative, then this is something requires our immediate attention, especially once graduates enter the practical field.

Huzooraa went on to say that it is also necessary for the missionaries to study the Quran and Tafsir, pondering over the deeper and hidden meanings of the Quran. When people ask questions later on in the practical life, a missionary should be able to answer questions from the Holy Quran, the practices and sayings of the Holy Prophetsa and the writings of the Promised Messiahas. All questions that are asked today can be answered from all these sources.

The seven-year course is not sufficient for this; this is just the start, and this should continue. Huzooraa said that every day, a few hours should be dedicated for increasing knowledge and personal study. Along with this, one should pray that God increases their knowledge.

Huzooraa said that a missionary should also have compassion for fellow humans. Within the system of the Jamaat, missionaries should be able to reconcile with people who are against the Jamaat or Islam in a way that they can explain the realities calmly to such people. To determine how to show compassion to even a wrongdoer, in light of the instruction of the Holy Prophetsa, is something that should be a skill of each missionary.

For the edification of the youth, missionaries should show immense compassion; this will naturally bring everyone towards them. Huzooraa said that in the practical life, everyone has their eyes set on the missionaries. The graduates should not think that as they are young, they will not be questioned as much as senior missionaries. They too have responsibilities to show members of the Jamaat the correct path.

However, Huzooraa said, this can only be achievable though adopting the teachings of the Holy Quran and the high and noble example of the Holy Prophetsa in their lives.

When one’s intentions are pure, this can all be achievable and God Almighty shall help such a person.

As far as the Shariah, the teachings of the Prophetsa, the sayings of the Promised Messiahas or the sayings of Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa are concerned, no cowardice should be displayed. Missionaries should never display weakness in their faith. They should respond to allegations like unsheathed swords.

Only a few days ago a missionary wrote to Huzooraa saying that during Friday Sermons, some missionaries have attempted to quieten office-bearers, but they responded by saying that as they were office-bearers, they sometimes had to talk among themselves. Huzooraa explained that as office-bearers, this is not permissible. It is not permissible for anyone to talk during the sermon as it is part of the Friday prayer, in which the Prophetsa forbade speaking.

People at times interpret religion in their own manner. It is the responsibility of the missionaries to clarify such misconceptions, but before this, they must purify themselves.

قطب کا کام دو تم ظلمت و تاریکی میں

بھولے بھٹکوں کے لئے راہنما ہو جاؤ

(Serve as a guiding star in times of darkness; guide those who have gone astray)

Today, as the majority of the world delves in materialism, it is the responsibility of missionaries to become qutb (guiding stars) for the world as this is the oath made by the missionaries. The missionaries have been made leaders so that they may bring the world to them in order to show the truth and excel in spirituality. It is essential, however, to excel themselves first before encouraging others to do so.

The graduates were told that they should be confident in their own faith and should not follow the world. “The world should follow you rather than you follow the world.”

Belonging to this environment, being born and raised here, being educated here is something that should assist the missionaries in teaching the truth to people in the West. This cannot be done without the help of God.

As those who have pledged to spread the mission of the Holy Prophetsa far and wide, we must be able to teach true morals to the world.

A heavy responsibility rests on the shoulders of the missionaries. In servitude of the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa, missionaries have been given authority. If they do not realise their responsibilities, then there is no point in dedicating their lives for this cause.

Huzooraa said that his prayer for the missionaries was:

موردِ فضل و کرم وارثِ ایمان و ہدیٰ

عاشقِ احمد و محبوبِ خدا ہو جاؤ

(Become the recipients of God’s grace, blessings, guidance and faith; become a lover of Ahmadsaand a beloved of God)

Huzooraa, towards the end of his address, prayed that the missionaries were able to always remain loyal to their Lord and after receiving blessings, spread it among people. May they always be Sultan-e-Naseer (true helpers) of Khilafat and may we once again hoist the flag of Muhammad Rasulullahsa in the world. May they always be the ones who fulfil their promises and not the ones who break them.

Huzoor’saa address was followed by silent prayer, group photos of each batch as well as a collective Jamia Ahmadiyya UK photo. This was then followed by Zuhr and Asr prayers and lunch.

Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V’saa address at the convocation of Jamia Ahmadiyya UK will Insha-Allah be broadcast on MTA International on Tuesday, 30 April at 09:00 GMT and repeated during the day.

Head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Addresses Concluding Session of IAAAE Annual Symposium

On 27 April 2019, the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, addressed the Annual Symposium of the European chapter of the International Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers (IAAAE). The symposium took place at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in south-west London.

During his address, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad praised the work of IAAAE and its volunteers and reminded them about the importance of developing a bond with God Almighty and increasing their commitment to serving humanity.

His Holiness expressed his pleasure that IAAAE had expanded its work in the recent years and was taking on bigger and more complex projects in some of the most underdeveloped parts of the world.

His Holiness mentioned that aside from its humanitarian projects, which include installing new and rehabilitated water pumps, harnessing solar energy and developing model villages, the IAAAE was also playing a significant role in designing and constructing Mosques and other buildings of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“With the Grace of Allah, wherever in the world the IAAAE is serving, its members are working in an exemplary fashion and with a spirit of true service and dedication. In this regard, I pray that may Allah the Almighty enable you to continually increase the scope of your work and expertise.”

Amongst the recent completed projects of IAAAE, His Holiness cited large Mosque complexes recently completed in Tanzania and Mali.

His Holiness also commended the IAAAE for having completed the development of 20 model villages in some of the remotest parts of the world.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“The members of the IAAAE are working with great diligence, care and with a sincere desire to serve the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and to alleviate the suffering of people who are living impoverished and desperately tough lives. In fact, some of the volunteers do not even claim for expenses and so, apart from sacrificing their time and providing their professional expertise free of charge, they are even bearing the costs of travel personally.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued:

“Unquestionably, such devoted people are working with the spirit of a true Waqf (life devotee) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. I greatly appreciate their sincere efforts and I pray that may Allah the Almighty reward them immensely for this service and bless their efforts manifold.”

His Holiness reminded the volunteers about the need to constantly improve their standards of worship of Allah the Almighty.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“I wish to remind all of you that it is of the utmost importance that you pay special attention to establishing a true and lasting connection with Allah the Almighty and remain ever grateful to Him and continually strive to improve the standards of your worship.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued:

“Your sole focus should not be the material work you are doing but rather building your personal relationship with Allah the Almighty should always remain your paramount objective. If you sincerely aspire to attain the nearness of Allah the Almighty you will see how He blesses your efforts and you will come to see the most beautiful fruits of your labor.”

His Holiness concluded his address by praying for the continued progress of IAAAE and that future generations are able to serve with even greater passion.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“May you all prove to be great assets for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and may the younger generations step forward in great numbers to follow in the footsteps of the older members who have offered years of service. May they learn from the positive examples of their elders and serve with even greater passion, energy, and skill than their predecessors so that the work of the IAAAE continues to go from strength to strength.”

Earlier, a report was presented by Mr. Muhammad Akram Ahmedi, the Chairman of the IAAAE (European Chapter), in which he outlined the main activities and projects of the IAAAE during the past year. He informed that the theme of the symposium was ‘Education for sustainable development’ and lectures were delivered on the importance of sustainability, including the impact of smartphone production and use on the environment.

He also informed that in the past year the IAAAE had worked on model village projects in Benin, Mali and The Gambia, providing various facilities, including sanitation, agriculture, electricity and clean drinking water in remote African villages.

Various other projects were also being run simultaneously including Water for Life where 167 water pumps were established.

The event concluded with a silent prayer led by Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria had successfully graduated eleven (11) members of the first set of Women Empowerment Scheme beneficiaries.

The graduation ceremony came up at Ahmadiyya Settlement Owode Road, Ilaro Ogun State and had in attendance dignitaries and relatives of the graduands.

It will be recalled that the empowerment scheme was planned and organized by the organization’s Economic Empowerment and Development Committee (EEDC) and the programme runs for three (3) months (19th January to 18th April 2019).

Pioneer beneficiaries were trained on sewing and crafts making within the period.  They had successfully produced products such as clothes, teddy bear, bags, beads, window blind, headrest, armrest, bedspread, foot mat, tie and dye.

“The basic amenities expected from the government does not only include food, clothing, and shelter but also provision of safe water.  If the government failed in this regards, it is incumbent on us, as a Muslim Community and another well to do Nigerians to come up with the empowerment programme like this.  You cannot eradicate poverty without empowerment.”

“There are millions of brains out there that are under-utilized.  So many of our youths are very creative.  Hence, the formation of EEDC to identify and train those talents and improve their economic status,” Dr. Fashola said.

The Amir urged the graduands to start their operation on a low key and should not be too materialistic while striving to make headway economically.  He said while the organization will be assisting the graduands financially to kick-start their business, monitoring mechanism will also be put in place to check their excesses.

He further appreciated the EEDC led by the Naib Amir (Deputy Head) Southwest, Alhaji Abdul Azeez Alatoye for its teamwork and actualization of the dream.  He also requested all members of the organization to give support to the Committee in cash or kind.  Amir added that the committee is also working on accommodating men empowerment scheme and that members could forward useful information and ideas to the committee.

Coordinator of the programme Mrs. Maryam Sanni stated that the committee had plans to include other courses such as catering, photography, and shoemaking into the training programme with effect from next edition.

Not a Worldly Programme:

Alhaji Alatoye re-emphasized that the programme is not intended to make participants become worldly in any way but rather to improve on their economic conditions to be able to serve Almighty God better.  He added that training is a national and continuous programme.  He said that the second phase will soon commence, and will last for three (3) months as well.

Training Venue and Facility Improvement

Alhaji Alatoye stated that the training hall construction had commenced and may be ready for use before the completion of the second phase.

Commencement of the Second Phase:

The Amir officially commissioned the commencement of the second phase of the empowerment scheme expected to kick-start on the 3rd of August and terminate on November 2, 2019.  Applications will be received between now and July 2019 from all over the country.

Mrs. Fagbolade commended the Amir and the coordinator of the programme for the brilliant initiatives and advised all graduands not to throw the knowledge garnered in three (3) months under the carpet.  Also, the leader of the Elders Forum (Majlis Ansarullah), Engr. Abdul Waheed Adeoye urged youths to learn the technical aspect of their profession in order to succeed economically in the country.

Alhaji Abbas Iromini, the General Secretary of the organization advised parents to encourage their children including graduates among them to apply for the empowerment scheme.  He also requested the management to create a showroom at the National Headquarters where the products of the scheme would be displayed and sold to customers.

Ignore the Challenges, Preach To the World with Love And Kindness – Amir, AMJN Tells MKAN Members

0

Irrespective of the challenges, temptations, and frustrations that prevail in the society, members of the Majlis Khuddam-ul- Ahmadiyya Nigeria (Youth Wing) has been urged to call people into the way of God with wisdom, love, cheerfulness, and kindness.

Dr. Mashhud Adenrele Fashola, the Amir (Head) of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria gave the advice at the 46th Annual National Ijtema (Youth Convention) of MKAN held at Federal Science and Technical College Yaba Lagos State.

Tabligh, an Arabic word for ‘Preaching’ was approved by the Supreme Head of Ahmadiyya Community Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (May the peace and blessings of God be upon him) as the theme of the four – day programme. It is on this basis that Dr. Fashola enjoined the youths to face the preaching activities squarely, not minding the difficulties, distractions and social vices in the land. He believed youths will eventually surmount these challenges if they are prayerful, steadfast, persevere and upright. Above all, they must fully reform themselves first and become role models to others before embarking on preaching activities.

“The theme of this event as approved by His Holiness is a mighty one, very appropriate and timely. Youths have great roles to play in Tabligh expeditions. Though the challenges youths faced today are tremendous and unimaginable. There is a problem of joblessness, idleness, poverty, drug abuse, and social media distractions. But if you can face the challenges and be upright, there await awesome rewards from Almighty God.”

“The greatest you can do to your fellow brothers is to give moral and spiritual guidance. Ensure you spread the oneness of Allah to everyone as directed by Imam Mahdi (as). Preach to people with love and cheerfulness. Give encouragements to others, be sincere, steadfast and prayerful. Where ever you are, you must be shining and radiating light. Islam has made Tabligh easier for us. First is to reform yourself, second is to avoid evil, shun wickedness and third is to preach with prayer and wisdom.”

“The most fundamental teaching Ahmadiyya declared to the world is freedom of worship. There is no compulsion in religion. You youths of the community have to demonstrate to the world that you are the greatest servants of God. Let people feel your impact. Always strive to attain nearness to Allah, this can only be achieved if you purify yourselves. If you are unable to succeed in Tabligh activities, then please check yourself again,” Amir emphasized.

He also warned:” You must be wary of hypocrites in the course of discharging your duties. Do not associate with the disbelievers and hypocrites because you will share from the calamities when the time comes. We should not keep mute about the evils going on around us. If you are sincere with Allah, your prayers would be answered. Put your trust only in God. All youths need to come together to fight corruption and save humanity. Maintain your integrity in the face of poverty and temptation. Abide by truthfulness always, do not be materialistic and lastly follow the footsteps of the Holy Prophet (saw).”

Goodwill Message from Supreme Head

His Holiness Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (as) sent a thought-provoking message to the gathering. He admonished youths to pay attention to the commandments of Allah and observe their five daily prayers regularly. He also advised them to attach themselves to the institution of Khilafah and obey all instructions of constituted authority. Those youths should uphold their pledge and learn from the good deeds of the Holy  Prophet (saw).  Huzur Aqdas also directed the youths to spread across the true preachings of Islam.

Islam and Humanity

While delivering his lecture titled “Islam and Humanity,” Missionary (Barr.) Muhammad Rabiu Uthman said Islam encourages us to live among one another with love, affection, brotherhood, and compassion, adding that service to mankind is service to God Almighty. He stated that religion is not an end itself but means to an end which can only be attained by the continuous devotion of one’s happiness and comfort for the pleasure and comfort of others in accordance with the dictate of Almighty God.

“According to Islam, mankind is like a family and can only take care of the welfare of each other provided it lives like a close-knit family. The apparent differences in mankind are only for identification as to who are Africans, Arabs, Americans, Asians, Europeans, among others. As a human, we are one and the same. Islam urges the people of the world to raise themselves above parochial, tribal, national and racial limitations. Islam believes in the dignity of man and not in the prestige or power of man or this race or that nationality.”

“Service and care of the aged, helping one’s relatives, regard for neighbors, loyalty to friends, aiding the weak, the destitute, the widows, and the orphans, nursing the sick are qualities which are highly meritorious; cherished and valued in Islam,” he stated.

Missionary Uthman emphasized that a cursory look at the life of the Holy Prophet (saw) clearly shows that it was a life dedicated to serving humanity and this has been the guidelines for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community that has been the front runners in the provision of Islamic education and awareness, western education, water, and health service to mankind. This, he said, has been achieved through the organization’s charitable body ‘Humanity First International’ which is also saddled with the responsibility of helping victims of famine, disasters, plague, and war.

Advice for the Youths

The senior cleric advised Ahmadiyya youths to exhibit and propagate all the beautiful teachings of Islam. “Members of Ahmadiyya community must confront the dark forces of evil and prejudice surrounding the citadel of civilizations with the true teachings of Islam so that mankind can benefit immensely from its invaluable teachings.

These untiring efforts have earned our organization numerous awards from corporate bodies, community leaders, governmental and no governmental organizations.”

Missionary In-charge Words of Advice

The Missionary In-charge Maulvi Afzaal Ahmad Rauf charged MKAN members not to relent in their efforts in propagating the true preachings of Islam. He advised that they should study the books of the Promised Messiah(as) and engage in Tabligh activities with all decency.

There was also road procession along Yaba/Somolu Axis. Members engaged in Tabligh activities with some pedestrians and distributed pamphlets containing peaceful messages to the people.

Muibi Abdul Latest of Shomolu Local Government Area; Comrade Kolawole Bamidele Babajide representative of Youth Alive Foundation and also some religious leaders.

Over 2,300 members of the group across the country attended the convention.

RAMADAN: THE NINTH OF THE TWELVE

0

Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam and an injunction from Allah. Fasting in Islam is of different types and the most important is the fasting in the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth of the twelve months of the Islamic lunar calendar and a sacred month. Fasting in Ramadan does not entail just abstinence from food, but also abstinence from sexual pleasure and vices like gambling, cheating, backbiting, gossiping, and other open and secret sins.

Fasting is such a special act of worship that the Holy Prophet (saw) declared in one of his sayings that: “there is a gate to paradise that is called ar-Rayyan. On the Day of Resurrection, it will say: ‘where are those who fasted? When the last one has passed through the gate, I will be locked’ ” (Bukhari and Muslim).

Fasting is obligatory for every adult Muslim except those suffering from illnesses which may worsen if they fast. Travelers, pregnant and breastfeeding women and those observing their monthly flow are excused from fasting, but they must make up for the fast later. The elderly are equally excused but they must feed sixty fastings Muslims for the duration of the fast. The mentally unstable are not required to observe the fast.

The month of Ramadan is a blessing to all of mankind. The Prophet (saw) said in a hadith that “When the month of Ramadan begins, the gates of heaven are open, and the gates of hell are closed, and the devil is chained.” (Sahih Bukhari)

This hadith shows that during the month of Ramadan, it is very easy to do good deeds. Due to the importance of this month, humans check themselves when they err and seek forgiveness always, are conscious of their actions, and try to make the best of this time.

The month of Ramadan can also be said to be a faith booster with a lot of goodies. This is because the month is packed with Laylatul Qadir (the night of power), the fast of Ash-Shura, multiplication of blessings, the ease of doing good deeds and abstaining from bad deeds. The month of Ramadan can be divided into three parts; the first part for seeking for Allah’s mercy, the second part for forgiveness, and the third for shielding one from the hellfire.

Allah has prescribed fasting for Muslims, and He says in Quran 2 vs 184: “Oh you who believe, fasting is prescribed on you has it has been prescribed for those before you, that they may learn piety and righteousness”. Fasting is prescribed as a form of medicine for the soul and body. It is a medium for the growth of an individual’s faith. It can be said to be a spiritual detox to rid the body and soul of spiritual junk.

Ramadan is a period when adherents get closer to Allah. This is because Muslims perform acts of Ibadah that they had hitherto not been doing. These acts bring them closer to Allah. They begin to pray the late-night prayer (Taraweeh), pray the early morning prayer (Tahajud), recite the Quran always, and do dhikr (remembrance of Allah). They also keep good company, give more in charity, and repent sincerely their wrongdoings. They keep hope in Allah and pray for the good in this world and the next. Feeling the nearness to Allah, make for growth in the self-control of adherents. They begin to check their urge to cheat, smoke, gamble and do such derogatory acts that Allah forbids. Ramadan keeps Muslims in check and makes them humble.

Another essence of Ramadan is that Muslims are able to imbibe the spirit of giving freely, and solely for the sake of Allah. Giving sadaqah not only helps the recipient, but it also helps the giver. It does not decrease wealth as people think, but it rather increases it. Allah says in Qur’an 2 vs 263 that “those who spend their wealth in the cause of Allah and do not follow up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury; for them, their reward is with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve”.

Deeds of charity are a shield on the Day of Judgement, protection from misfortune prevents greed, and expiates sin. A hadith of the Holy Prophet (saw) relates that “charity extinguishes the sins like water extinguishes the fire. One should know that charity earns blessings, even after the giver’s demise.

The reward that can be accrued in the month of Ramadan is limitless. Allah says that He alone rewards the deed of Ramadan. A hadith of the prophet relates that“every deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting. It is for Me, and I shall reward it”. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

In the month of Ramadan is Laylatul Qadir (the Night of Majesty). This was the night in which the Quran was revealed. The Night of Majesty is said to be better than a thousand months. The Night of Majesty is found in one of the odd nights of the last ten nights in the month of Ramadan. Adherents are enjoined to search for this night, as whatever activity that is done in that night would be recorded to have been done for 83 years and 4 months.

In this night, Muslims are enjoined to say repeatedly this dua: ‘Allahuma inaka afuwun tuhibulafwa fahafuhana”, which translates to “Oh our God, truly You are effacer of sins; You love to forgive, please erase my sins”.

In the last ten nights, it is advised to do I’tikaf. I’tikaf is to stay in the mosque for ten days, praying, reciting the Quran, making dua, supplicating to Allah for His mercy and favor, and doing other acts of ibadah to earn the mercy of Allah, without distractions. It affords Muslims the ease to pray Tahajud, which is the early morning prayer.

One of the lessons that Islam teaches is the love for one’s neighbors, family, and friends. Muslims who do not have the opportunity to partake in the I’tikaf use the opportunity to help prepare food for the Mutakif to break their fast. The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: “he who gives food to a fasting person to break his fast will receive the same reward as him, and nothing will be reduced from the fasting person’s reward”, (Ibn Majah, Ahmad, at-Tirmidhee}. Not only does it foster a good relationship among people, but it also turns people’s hearts towards Allah.

Ramadan benefits not just the soul, but the body also. When people fast, they tend to eat healthy dishes to sustain their hunger and break their fast with fruits and water. Foods rich in sugar digest quickly, and leave the individual feeling hungry. Taking nutrient-based food, fruits, and drinks is better as it would keep them nourished and hydrated for long.

Breaking one’s fast with caffeinated drinks and cold drinks is injurious to the health, as one needs to get hydrated after losing much water. Due to the fact that people do not get to eat as much as often, they lose excess weight, and their blood sugar is regularized. Allah says in Quran 2 vs 185 that “for to fast is to do good on yourself. If only you knew”. It is recommended that Muslims break the fast with water, milk, and dates, as these foods give energy to an exhausted body like petrol in a car.

Apart from the month of Ramadan, there are different types of fasting like the one done on Mondays and Thursdays, the fast of Ash-Shuraa, and voluntary fast to pray to Allah. “Fasting is a shield with which a servant protects himself from the hell”. (Imam Ahmad).

2019 Eastern Jalsa Tarbiyyah: Ahmadiyya Members Urged To Embrace Justice and Equity

0

Members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria has been advised to embrace the principle of justice, equity and fairness as a way of showcasing the true recognition of Almighty God.

Giving this admonition was the Amir (National Head) of the organization Dr. Mashhud Adenrele Fashola during the 4th Eastern region Jalsa Tarbiyyah (Moral Training Convention) held at the Conference Hall of MOM Civic Center, Warri Delta State.

Dr. Fashola said it is incumbent on all members of Ahmadiyya Community to exhibit the beautiful traits of Prophet Muhammad (saw) and those of the  Promised Messiah (as) if truly they are reformers of the world and have the zeal of winning more converts into the fold.

While speaking on the theme of the convention “Recognition of God: A True Means of Salvation, “ Amir emphasized: “The purpose of our existence is to test us whether we recognize Almighty God. If we do not recognize God, we are inviting the wrath of God. Recognizing God means we have to stick with justice, equity and we must shun all forms of discrimination.”

Delivering his lecture on the theme of the programme, Dr. Sa’eed Olurotimi Timehin, the National Tabligh (Preaching) Secretary of the Muslim organization said that the world presently struggled with multifaceted issues and challenges such as poverty, globalization, liberalization, democratic pluralism, privatization, secularization, and religious resurgence, and that leaders at local, national and global arena have all strived relentlessly to find lasting solutions to those crises in their different ways thereby attaining the salvation they seek.

“Throughout the world, from the far Eastern countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, China and Korea to North, East, West and South African countries; from the Middle East to Central Asia, and from Europe to America, crises of varying dimensions are perennially experienced and the whole world weeps for salvation from poverty, ignorance, insecurity, illiteracy, hate and several other unpalatable situations and conditions.”

Dr. Timehin said the primary solution and the most important key to salvation in all spheres of human experience are righteousness attained through recognition of God in His Essence, Attributes, and Decrees. He added that the true recognition of God can only be achieved by God’s Grace and the Grace is tied to the personality of  Prophet Muhammad (saw) whose life is regarded as a total reflection of God’s limitless Grace and a complete manifestation of His Mercy.

“The transcendent and immanent dimensions of the Divine Being are linked with the personality of the Holy Prophet (saw). While God is Transcendent in His glory and Majesty, His immanence is manifested by the prophet (saw) in whose conduct and actions, the Divine Will is manifested in practical terms. God is thus not a being that is seen physically and neither are His anthropomorphic description in the scriptures to be taken literally. The prophet is the cosmic bridge towards a complete appreciation of His essence.”

In recognition of God and socioeconomic wellbeing of the people, he said God-consciousness or recognition of the Divine is the missing link between human systems and socioeconomic behaviors both at individual and governmental levels, the more reasons why political analysts, economists, and social theorists are all trying today to rediscover the missing ethical link.

“It is the absence of moral systems that are not driven by a true recognition of God that has continued to lubricate the wheel of corruption in our social universe and it is a known fact that more than ninety percent of our economic travails have its roots in individual and corporate corrupt practices.”

“All corrupt acts emanate from non-recognition of God and His design for this world. Because corruption undermines national and communal harmony and prevents the actualization of maximum good for the highest number, it is undesirable from a utilitarian perspective, repugnant from a moral perspective, unjust from the perspectives of equity and fair play, and culpable from a legal standpoint.”

The major solution to corruption, according to him, is the institutionalization of justice, kindness and charitable deeds to kith and kin.

Meanwhile, Maulvi Abdul Lateef Ilori spoke extensively on the topic:” Making Salat a Constant Companion: A True Source of Material and Spiritual Success,” while Maulvi Zafrullah Mustapha delivered a speech on the topic: “Overcoming Tabligh Challenges in Eastern Region: Lessons from Successes of the Early Missionaries.” The General Secretary Alhaji Abbas Iromini also delivered a lecture on the topic: “Building a Harmonious Family as a Basis for a Peaceful Society” while a lecture on “Renewable Energy: The Next Phase to Energy Solution “ was delivered by Mr. Abdul Samad Idowu.

Economic Summit

Another major highlight of the convention is the business summit, the first of its kind. According to the Naib Amir (Deputy National President) Eastern Region Dr. Abdul Gani Enahoro, the aim of the summit is to enlighten members on how to become successful economically without losing their spirituality and the fear of God.

“This business summit is a new way for us and we have selected a panel of speakers and discussants for two sessions, and they would take us through the windy road of how to become successful in business without losing spirituality and the fear of Allah, as we navigate through this very troubling period of our country’s history, full of temptations. “

The economic summit featured Managing Directors of multinational companies, CEOs of Private and Government sectors, Economists among others and they all engaged in panel discussions on how to make headway economically in this unpredictable Nigerian society.

Agriculture expert Mr. Zaid Abdullah of the Lagos State Government presented a paper on “Investment in Agriculture- The Value Chain and Opportunities.” There was also a paper presentation on “The Guiding Principles for Survival in Business Without Corruption in a Mono-Product Economy “ and “Islamic Ethics in Business and Commerce.”

Factors Militating Agriculture in Nigeria

One of the discussants Alhaji Abdul Azeez Alatoye, the Naib Amir South West and the Chief Executive Officer Ascension Consulting Firm said the major problems facing agriculture in the country are lack of competent people and absence of trustworthy Nigerians that will handle the sector decently with fear of God.

The Executive Secretary Nigeria Sugar Council Dr. Abdul Lateef Busari highlighted inadequate knowledge on agriculture, storage problem, inadequate infrastructure and absence of regulators as some of the factors affecting the sector. He enjoined governments at all levels to fund the sector and improve on the processing and storage facilities. He also advised the government to improve on the transportation system and regulate the sector once it has been liberalized to cut the excesses of those in charge of the sector.

Managing staff members in a complicated business environment

With the terrible environments, we found ourselves, the CEO of Mabstar Project Limited Alhaji Mufadhil Bankole urged Managing Directors of companies to live above board and hold regular meetings with their staff members regularly to discuss issues affecting the company. He said MDs must be competent and friendly with the fear of God and must put in place a strong monitoring system to check the excesses of staff members. He further advised the would-be entrepreneurs to start on a very small scale and should never take loans to start a business.

Above all, Alhaji Bankole said all owners of the business must live with the commandments of Almighty God and be regular in five daily prayers.

Funding of business

To Dr. Habeeb Yaqeen, the Naib Amir North and the CEO of Al-Azhar International College Lokoja Kogi State, funding is not a problem in a business set up but personality issue. He added that people can have access to Central Bank loans but must have reached a certain stage in their businesses.

He submitted that Islamic banking system would have been the panacea to funding issues but unfortunately, the country is not ripe enough for such facility until we change our conditions, that Nigerians must be prepared to be productive.

The Amir further enjoined members to have in-depth knowledge of any business they intend to venture into and put in place monitoring and supervision mechanisms. He said MDs should give targets to staff members and give sanctions to erring members. He advised them to uphold justice and equity, and be nice to workers. He later advised that members should not underrate the spiritual aspects, that prayer is essential to all sectors.
